The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way will be adapting Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira into two live action films. The first film is planned for release in Summer 2009.

on another note, anyone kind of annoyed by the number of live action films coming out as of late that have almost no way of living up to the original? 20th Century Boys is getting a live action film, and there's what... 22 volumes of the manga. and a movie is something like 2 hours long. DUDE. IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK. and the L movie that came out recently (that... focuses on L... or whatever instead of the main Death Note story)... can you say "milking Death Note popularity teats"? oy.
