Regarding My Absence
Alright, so I’m not going to attempt to excuse my incredibly long absence, but I will explain briefly. I’m a huge procrastinator, even with things I enjoy–especially when I have a good amount of other things on my plate. I’ve got a job in addition to SATs, College Apps, and plenty of school. In addition, I’ve managed to squander away much of the remaining time playing TFC and GunBound with Dark Mystic or watching through a TV series. Anyways, I can’t promise that I’m going to magically write a bunch of stuff again in the very near future, but hopefully things will pick up soon enough. Once I’m through with all the SATs and College Apps, I should have a lot more free time and a lot less stress.
The PaintChat
And now the part you’ve all been waiting for! Any of you who have been around for a while probably remember the PaintChat we used to have. At the time, it was hosted on either my or Dark Mystic’s computer. Obviously, this was quite unstable, not to mention a resource hog. So, it was taken down and hasn’t been back since. I searched all over for a way to host the PaintChat on an actual server, but to no avail. There was no real documentation as to how to go about doing it, and even Oekaki Art wasn’t of much help, since the most the admin would say to anyone was “you need shell access.” After many, many months of searching for a solution to my PaintChat Server woes I had a completely chance occurrence just a day ago.
While doing yet another one of my google searches, I happened upon a post on a cached page of a remote forum by someone who had hosted a paintchat on their server. They had an AIM screen name listed, and I decided to give it a go in hopes that they still used it (the post was back in 2002). Amazingly, they were online, though idle. I sent a message and hopefully awaited a response.
To my surprise, they not only IMed me back but offered me help! He spent a good deal of time assisting me in getting an older version that he had used so long ago up and running. From there, I opted to look for an updated version and see if I could make it work. It took a while, but I got it! And now, I pass my savings directly onto any interested parties which reside here.
I’m currently hosting the PaintChat on my server, Dongues.net. Feel free to join, draw, and be merry! I’ll be in time to time, though It will be significantly more often if there are actually other people in there :v
I’ve only had it up for a day, so it is possible (though unlikely) that it will go down for some reason. If this occurs, please contact me via any of the methods available to you whether it be AIM, MSN, PM, a reply here, or email. Thanks, and happy PChatting!
Without further adieu:
The New & Improved PaintChat!
Note: Java is a must. Without it, you won’t be able to use PaintChat
