  • Bleach DVD #6 Bleach DVD #6 is the beginning to one of the best story arcs in anime I have ever seen. Unlike most shounen anime, fights in the Bleach Soul Society arc are fast-paced, loaded with substance and never dull.

    Hikaru no Go DVD #10 This is a perfect example of an anime I've continuously put off to the side for later, and yet when i finally get aroudn to it I fall in love with the series and beat myself up for not viewing it earlier!

    Naruto the Movie DVD The latest mission for our favorite ninja team? Protect and escort a spoiled actress to her next film set. Oh, and keep her from running away of course!

    Ping Pong DVD Ping Pong is a great film that blew away all my expectations and completely changed my negative view towards live actions movies. The story of friendship development through competition is superb. This is a must-see.

A promotional video for the upcoming Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Nintendo DS game has appeared on YouTube. The game is slated for an October 25 release in Japan.

The latest Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann PVC figure of Yoko, slated for a September 27 release, has been revealed with an unusual commodity: a removable top. This marks the first time Gainax has allowed a castoff PVC figure.

Riyoko Ikeda (Rose of Versailles) will be adapting the Korean drama Story of the First King’s Four Gods into a manga. The drama series debuted in Korea earlier this month and is slated to premiere in Japan in October.

Hatsukoi Limited by Mizuki Kawashita (Ichigo 100%) will begin printing in the Weekly Shounen Jump in the No.44 Issue (10/1).

GTR - GREAT TARO REVOLUTION- by Toda Takanobu will begin in the Big Comic Spirits No. 44 issue (10/1).

Futabasha’s Manga Action Pizazz, a seinen manga magazine, has launched its official website.

The animated short Franz Kafka’s A Country Doctor won the Grand Prize in Short Animation at this year’s Ottawa International Animation Festival (September 19-23). The film has now taken four top-place positions at international animation film festivals this year.

Tokyopop has listed three new staff openings here. They’re looking for a Marketing Coordinator, Copy Editor, and Jr. Editor; all full-time openings.

Salia and Psychic Lover will be performing at the Akiba Fest J-Pop Halloween Concert at the Jaxx Nightclub in Springfield, Virginia on October 27. Salia is known for the anime theme songs of Cutey Honey Flash and Vandread, the Psychic Lover J-Pop duo is known for the theme songs to Witchblade and Transformers Armada.

The 1 World comic collaboration between World Bank and Viz has been adapted into a short anime-style video, now available on YouTube. The animation was produced by Peach Blossom Media, a Singapore-based company.

The Media Blasters website has been updated with a new promotional trailer for the new Kite Liberator release.

After being delayed for a third time, ImaginAsian Entertainment announced the first two volumes of Cat’s Eye, Nobody’s Boy Remi, and Orguss, Super Dimensional Century will be released tomorrow, September 25. These titles have continuously been delayed since early August due to DVD copy-protection problems.

Studio Ghibli’s classic animation line, Ghibli Museum Library, will be releasing the 1957 Soviet film Snezhnaya Koroleva (The Snow Queen). It will premiere in Japanese theaters on December 15, paired with Lev Milchin’s short adaptation of The Steadfast Tin Soldier.

Viz Pictures announced the license of the live action film Nice no Mori: The First Contact (Funky Forest: The First Contact).

UK anime company Optimum announced they will be putting their Brave Story UK release on hold indefinitely. It is also expected for the DVD release of Gedo Senki (Tales from Earthsea) to be delayed as well.

Lucy Cousins’ children’s picture book Hooray for Fish! will be developed into an anime, scheduled to debut October 4 on Japan’s NHK public television network.

Imagi Entertainment announced Paul Dini, producer and screenwriter, will begin working on an upcoming fully-CG Gatchaman film, due out in 2009.

Variety Asian Online has posted a new interview with the Viz Pictures Director of Marketing, Manami Iiboshi, regarding the company’s recent live action films and its plans for 2008; stating 8 or 9 new titles will be released.

A promotional trailer for the Shin-Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden (True Female Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters) live-action film has been posted online in low and high quality. The film anthology opens in Japanese theaters on November 10.

ADV Films confirmed it has acquired the second Kanon series at Anime Weekend Atlanta.
