ANN reports that the Japanese music artist Hikaru Utado is now the best-selling artist for online digital download sales. Utada’s songs have sold over 10,491,000 copies as of the end of September 2007, with over 800,000 of those download sales coming from the Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone movie’s ending theme Beautiful World.

The anime movie Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone has reportedly grossed 1.468 billion yen (about US$12.7 million) in Japan since opening on September 1, 2007. This makes the film the highest grossing Evangelion film, beating out the 1997 movie The End of Evangelion, which brought in 1.45 billion yen (US$12.6 million).

The marketing team for Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone announced a count of over one million for the attendance figures since the movie opened on September 1. Marketing strategies including the character Rei on the cover of the Japanese Rolling Stones magazine and partnerships with both Pizza Hut and Yahoo! Japan have contributed to this high attendance number.

The Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone anime movie has dropped to the second place in the Japanese Box Office for the September 8-9 weekend. It was bumped down with the debut of Hero. The only other anime making the list is Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl: Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, which has dropped to the #10 spot in its ninth week.
Gainax and the Evangelion Store have auctioned off a human-sized Spear of Longinus replica for ¥13,727,000 (about US$120,000). Wright Kaoru Watanabe created this Neon Genesis Evangelion inspired replica with 62 pounds of steel; it stands just over 7 feet in height.

Pizza Hut’s new promotional advertisement in Japan partners with the Evangelion: 1.0 You are (Not) Alone movie to bring customers goodies with their pizza purchases. While supplies last, medium-sized pizza orders will garner an Evangelion: 1.0 designed pizza box. Pizza Hut Club members will receive an Evangelion: 1.0 computer wallpaper, and online customers can enter for a chance to win one of 50 life-size Rei Ayanami cardboard cutouts. This promotion ends October 17.

The Evangelion movie remake, Evangelion: 1.0 You are (Not) Alone, took the first place in this past weekend’s box office in Japan. Nikkatsu is stating the movie was screened before 236,158 people, bringing in more than ¥280 million (roughly US$2.4 million). The movie premiered in only 84 theaters.
The Pokemon movie, Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl: Dialga vs Palkia vs Darkrai, dropped to the #9 position after eight weeks in the top 10. The Saiyuki live action film has dropped to the #10 position.
The second (of four) Evangelion movie remakes was previewed at the end of the Evangelion: 1.0 You are (Not) Alone film. This newest remake will feature an entirely new never-animated female character and will receive completely new EVA unit designs.
